US Swimmer Tests Positive
A US medal hopeful, swimmer Jessica Hardy, may not be participating in the Beijing Olympics. The California swimmer tested positive for a banned substance, with less than two weeks to appeal before the Beijing Games.
Her "A" sample from the recent U.S. Olympic trials came up positive. According to anonymous sources, the substance is a stimulant.
Hardy was slated to participate in the 100-meter breaststroke, and on the U.S. 400-meter free relay team.
It is not clear yet what will happen. If Hardy loses her appeal, she will be banned from the Games--and a substitute will be called up.
Her lawyer says that a tiny trace of the banned substance came up, and he is appealing now.
