Chinese Ornamental Goldfish
A common sight in luxury Chinese hotel lobbies and restaurants are tanks of ornamental goldfish.
A species of carp, goldfish have been kept as ornamental fish in China for centuries and there are now over 300 varieties. The practice of keeping ornamental fish spread from China to Japan where koi carp are a symbol of good fortune and are much prized by fish breeders.
Ornamental fish are also kept in outdoor ponds in temples and gardens throughout China.
