Hong Kong A City of Signs

Hong Kong must be one of, if not the most signed place, on earth.

There are road signs, shop signs, signs in the MTR, signs on bus stops, signs on walls, on the floor, signs in both Cantonese and English - neon signs at night, warning and emergency signs, signs, in fact, everywhere covering every inch of available space in this crowded city.

Each Hong Kong street has a simple form of signage which identifies the road. Often the road name is tied to the history of the area or something unique.

The street names are officially standardized by the Transport Department to allow uniform conformity. New Road Signs set up in the last 20 years use the Arial Narrow or Helvetica font.
